Fortinet Addresses Unpatched Critical RCE Vector

Hey everyone!

Today we’ve got some important news about internet safety.

You might not think about it much, but keeping your wireless network secure is kind of like making sure your doors and windows are locked at home. There’s a company called Fortinet, which makes stuff that helps businesses keep their Wi-Fi networks safe. They found a couple of problems in their system, kind of like finding a broken lock on your front door.

Imagine there are two issues with your door. One issue makes it easier for someone to get their hands on your house key without you knowing. The other one actually lets them unlock your door and walk right in. Well, Fortinet found two problems kind of like that in their Wireless LAN Manager. It’s the tech that helps manage Wi-Fi networks.

This company just fixed a big problem with their Wi-Fi security (it had a fancy name, CVE-2023-34990). If this problem wasn’t fixed, someone without permission could sneak into the system, kind of like a burglar, and take control or even read all the notes you’ve got lying around (another problem called CVE-2023-48782).

But here’s the good news: Fortinet already took care of it! They put a new lock on the door, so to speak, so the bad guys can’t get in that way anymore.
