March Patch Tuesday warnings: Act fast to plug zero day holes in Windows, VMware

For any business that uses computers, it’s very important to keep them safe from hackers who might want to break in and steal information or cause problems. Just like a house needs strong locks on doors and windows to keep burglars out, computers need updates that fix weak spots where bad guys could get in.

Recently, a bunch of these updates came out on something called Patch Tuesday. It happens every month when companies like Microsoft and VMware tell us about new weak spots in their software and give us the tools to fix them.

This month, the folks who take care of computer systems have a big job ahead of them. Windows and VMware, two very popular programs, have some serious weak spots that need fixing right away. Hackers have already found these weak spots, and they’re trying to use them to sneak into systems.

One of the problems has been around for more than 10 years in a program called OpenSSH, which people use to connect to computers over the internet securely. It’s kind of shocking because no one noticed it until now. But there’s a fix for it, so system admins must make sure to update it as soon as possible.

For businesses that use VMware products to create virtual computers within their main computers, there are three new weak spots being used by hackers. These are especially serious because if a hacker gets in, they could take over not just one virtual computer but maybe the whole system.

Then there’s Windows, which has its own set of problems to fix, including six really urgent ones that are already known to hackers. There’s one good thing, though: most of these can be fixed with just one big update.

Aside from that, Cisco and Juniper Networks, which make equipment that connects computers together in a network, also released updates. Network admins should be quick to use these updates since attacks can come really fast after the updates are announced.

Other companies like Progress Software, Fortinet, Citrix, and Ivanti also announced important updates for their software. This shows that it’s not just a problem for the big names like Windows and VMware.

Now, all these updates and keeping track of them can be overwhelming. In fact, making sure everything is protected and up to date is a full-time job! That’s where Diversified Outlook Group comes in—we’re here to help businesses manage these risks. By working with us, businesses can make sure that their computers are always updated with the latest protections so they can focus on what they do best.
