Top 10 Malware Q3 2024

As we use the internet more and more in our daily lives, there are some sneaky programs called “malware” that can cause a lot of trouble. These bad bits of software can steal your information, mess up your computer, and even ask for money to fix problems they’ve created.

Each quarter, the experts at the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center (MS-ISAC®) take a close look to see which malware is causing the most problems. For the third quarter of 2024, they spotted some changes in the list of the top 10 most common malware compared to the previous few months.

Some of these malware programs can copy themselves all over the internet, while others can just sneak into one computer and hide there. There are even some that pretend to be helpful programs, only to take over your computer once you download them. And with each one that the experts figure out, it seems like sneaky cybercriminals come up with something new to take its place.
